Rubin Colwill is making a comeback to the Wales team for the Euro 2024 play-off final at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday against Poland.
In their 2-1 victory over Lithuania in the Euro 2025 Under-21 Championship qualifying match on Friday in Newport, the Cardiff City attacker scored for Wales Under-21s.
The 21-year-old Colwill was moved from the senior team to the U21s for Thursday’s 4-1 semi-final triumph over Finland.
Manager of the U21 team Matthew Jones stated, “He will be back with the senior squad.”
“I believe there has never been a stronger alignment between the two sides because of our training connections with one another.
“Everything has been planned out so [Wales senior manager] Rob Page can look around and decide when he needs to make a move.
“It’s working really well, we have to trust each other, there has to be a plan in place to manage them.”
Page and senior squad member Charlie Savage, of Reading, who has been an important part of the U21 squad but got his first full cap in October’s 4-0 success against Gibraltar, witnessed the Welsh youths’ victory at Rodney Parade.
- Koumas hopes to win Page over.
Wales would be viewed as a “big threat” by Poland due to its turbulent route to the Euro Play-off final, according to Brooks
Following the victory that propelled Wales U21 to the top of their group, Jones stated on BBC Radio Wales Sport: “Charlie’s plan is a little bit different.
“He’s had the chance to start on the bench [against Finland], and he might do so again on Tuesday.
“All we need to do is wish these guys well and make sure we’re available to help and support them in every way possible.
“Performances like this don’t go amiss, Pagey was here tonight with the management staff, there’s no better feeling looking across the pitch and seeing that as well.”
While Colwill and Savage get ready for Poland on Tuesday night, a diminished Wales under-21 team will travel to Antalya, Turkey, on Tuesday to play a friendly against the Morocco Under-23 team, who will be competing in the Olympics.
However, with two games remaining, they lead Denmark by three points in qualifying Group I, where they will be traveling.
There are still two games for Jones’ team to play: an October home match against the Czech Republic and a September away match against Iceland.
