Wes Burns, a winger for the Wales national team, has a hamstring injury. Town manager Kieran McKenna has confirmed that Burns’s injury is not temporary but that Burns won’t need surgery. Additionally, decisions will be made regarding whether Cameron Burgess and Kieffer Moore can start for the team on Good Friday against Blackburn, and George Hirst is back on the field following his hamstring injury. Brandon Williams is still with Manchester United.
Before the trip to Ewood Park, McKenna was questioned at his pre-game press conference about any fresh injury concerns.
“It’s alright. Wes was clearly lost in the last game. He has now seen the expert. As we had anticipated, his hamstring injury is undoubtedly not a minor one, but he doesn’t need surgery and is recovering well,” he stated.
“So, in about a week, we’ll get it rescanned and learn a lot more about how long the recovery will take.
“With regard to the international week, this is a difficult moment. There is a difficulty because, among other things, we have Cameron Burgess playing in Australia, Jeremy Sarmento performing in New York, and the Welsh guys enduring an emotional 120 minutes last night in Kieffer Moore’s situation.
“With the exception of Cameron, who will return to the training field tomorrow, we had the entire group back in today. We’ll take advantage of the situation and try our best to get ready for the game.
The good news is that no surgery or other such procedure was necessary; however, the only way to know if he will be available this season is to wait for the results of the next scan.
McKenna continued, “His first campaign playing regularly in the Championship and I know that was a big thing for him, even speaking to him two seasons ago,” as he thought back on the wideman’s season.
Regaining his place at that level and demonstrating his ability to compete there was a major objective for him. And once more this season, he’s done that like so many others.
Obviously, he is sad to be missing such a significant stretch of games. We are sorry he’s not with us. However, there’s a lot more football to play.
But I’m confident that he will be able to look back with pride, just like so many others, come summertime.
But that’s not the main topic right now. Right now, everyone’s preparation for the next games is the main focus.
“In Wes or George Hirst’s situation, the goal is returning to the team as soon as possible in the hopes of one day being able to assist them.”
