The South Sydney Rabbitohs’ Alex Johnston, a winger, may be sidelined for the next six weeks due to a hamstring tear, according to scans.
Johnston was hurt during the team’s Good Friday game against the Canterbury Bulldogs. Initially, the team and the winger thought he might have only missed one week of play.
That won’t be the case, though, since scans revealed a much worse outcome than anticipated, according to a Sydney Morning Herald article.
The injury is the most recent setback for the Rabbitohs, who have struggled mightily in the new year. The Rabbitohs defeated the Bulldogs by a slim margin on Friday to earn two competition points after dropping their opening three games of the season.
Though under pressure coach Jason Demetriou’s team will face the New Zealand Warriors, Canberra Sharks, Melbourne Storm, and Penrith Panthers over their next four games, their next schedule is as difficult as it gets. After the Sharks encounter, South Sydney will also play the Cowboys and Dragons after a bye.
Due to Johnston’s injury, the Rabbitohs will need to make another change to their backline. They have already played with a number of different alterations over the first few weeks and lost Campbell Graham for an extended period of time.Jack Wighton just participated in the match against Canterbury on his comeback from suspension.
Due to Johnston’s most recent injury, the team will probably turn to Tyrone Munro when he recovers in the following weeks. In the interim, however, Isaac Thompson, Richard Kennar, or Jacob Gagai may be used as a wing player.
