She is Now Maidenhead Premier League Community Captain

Tanya Davis-Hussain, a trustee of the Maidenhead United FC Community Trust, had a very special afternoon during Sunday’s FA Women’s National League match against Portishead Town. Tanya is a very involved volunteer with the club. She also serves as Maidenhead United Juniors Treasurer, Women and Girls Lead (managing our Women’s First and Development squads), and Community Activities Coordinator during game days.
Tanya is a native of Maidonia and was nominated for the title of 2023–24 club’s “More Than A Game” Premier League Community Captain. She accepted the award prior to the Magpies Women’s thrilling 4-0 victory over Portishead Town and posed for photos with the squad and our mascots from Riverside Primary School. When Tanya was younger, her dad played football in the area, and they took her to games at York Road. Being a mother of three boys, she has always placed a high value on football. Tanya used to be active with Maidenhead Boys & Girls FC, helping out in a variety of capacities to make the club run smoothly on a daily basis.
Tanya is a true grassroots football volunteer who doesn’t mind getting her hands filthy while taking on any position within the team. Her past positions include treasurer, kit manager, kit washer, tea-bar cook, party planner, mascot chaperone, transportation coordinator, parking attendant, first responder, turnstile/admission gate operator, charity fund raiser, and children’s activity coordinator. This is not an exhaustive list of all the positions she has held.
After Maidenhead United FC Juniors was formed in 2019, Tanya began volunteering for Maidenhead United and was elected as a trustee of the Maidenhead United FC Community Trust. Tanya took on the role of Juniors Treasurer at that point and began supporting the club’s female and women’s teams. Tanya played a key role in setting up Maidenhead United FC Women’s current management structure. Her fundraising efforts also brought in valuable sponsorship, which helped the club create a new women’s development team and give more and more young female players access to top-notch coaching so they can reach their full potential.
Tanya sees herself as a volunteer occupied with football-related duties of various kinds during the weekends since she finds it difficult to say “no” to requests for assistance at the club. She is a loving wife and mother to Farooq, with three young adult boys of her own. Her family sometimes has to remind her to remember to take care of herself too!
Tanya has supported the work of Maidenhead United In The Community through her work as matchday events co-ordinator, helping to attract more families and young children to matches so that they are able to experience and understand more about what Maidenhead United In The Community does and what it can offer. Tanya has also headed up charitable Christmas collections of toys and gifts for disadvantaged children and families, contacting local retailers for help, setting up and promoting Just Giving, wrapping and delivering gifts to institutions supporting those in need. Tanya has been supported in these endeavours by members of the Maidenhead United Women’s football team with whom she has developed a close bond, acting as a mentor for many of the players.
It is no exaggeration to say that Tanya’s involvement has helped many more young children and women have opportunities to play football in an organised and safe environment. Since Tanya has come on board, the Juniors section has grown by more than a third and Tanya’s trusted worked as treasurer has meant that youngsters and parents can rest assured that the club is financially sound. Tanya’s further work with sponsors and suppliers has allowed Maidenhead United Women FC to inaugurate a Development team for 2023/24, giving even more young women the opportunity to express their talents.
