Wales National Football Team Has Choosen A New Leader

Despite Tottenham defender Ben Davies’ best attempts, Leeds United star Dan James missed a crucial penalty that saw Poland qualify for Euro 2024, making the evening a miserable one for Wales.

In order to advance to this summer’s group rounds, Wales needed to defeat Robert Lewandowski’s Poland, but after 120 minutes of play at The Cardiff City Stadium Friday night, the two countries were unable to be separated.

In the penalty shootout, Davies—who was captaining Wales for the evening—blasted his penalty goal into the goal after assisting in keeping Barcelona’s Lewandowski quiet. James, though, missed his spot kick.

Though it was a nice enough strike of the ball from 12 yards, Wojciech Szczesny saved his effort. Davies finds himself with an abundance of free time this summer rather than a plane ticket as Wales crashes out.

Welsh media blown away by Tottenham star Ben Davies last night

Despite Wales having home advantage, it was a closely contested match as both teams had several chances on the evening. However, ironically, it was James who missed his penalty, sending Wales reeling.

The 30-year-old Davies earned his 87th cap for his nation yesterday night. Rob Page, the manager, used him brilliantly on the left side of a back three. As both teams struggled to find a winner, Davies also had a goal disallowed for offside.

Although his contract with Tottenham expires in June 2025, his long-term future there may be in question, his standing with the Wales national team is undeniable.Wales Online rated him a nine out of ten, calling him their main guy.
