3 players who could leave if the they fail to get promoted

Leeds United fans have seen their side involved in a see-saw battle, at times, with Ipswich Town and Southampton. This battle came as they clawed away at Leicester City‘s previously significant lead. However, claw away they did and the Whites now above the Foxes, 2nd in the Championship table and a point off current leaders Ipswich.

With six games left to play, Farke’s men seem odds-on for at least a play-off place in the Championship. Regarding the automatic promotion places, only two points separate Leeds, Leicester and Ipswich.

Should they fail to gain promotion, that could have a big knock-on effect for the West Yorkshire side. Of course, financially, the club will suffer. However, they could also suffer due to ambitious players wanting to move on and play at a higher level.

Here, we take a look at three players who could move on from Leeds United if they fail to gain promotion this season…

Crysencio Summerville

This is pretty much a given if Leeds United fail to achieve promotion this season. Summerville has been a shining light in a sparkling Whites attacking line.

His 18 goals and nine assists have marked the Dutch youngster out as a player capable of handling the rigours of the Championship. Other clubs higher up the football ladder will have taken note, and failure to gain promotion will see offers come in for him.

Wilfried Gnonto

Right-wing flyer Gnonto tried to engineer a move away from Elland Road at the start of this season, a manoeuvre that saw him ostracised by Daniel Farke and kept away from the first-team squad. However, the young Italian international apologised and he has paid his dues.

An injury to Dan James opened an opportunity for him to start and he has repaid Farke’s faith in him. At the moment, the 20-year-old has eight goals and two assists to his name. Like Summerville, he would be a player attracting bids should promotion fail to materialise for Leeds United.

Pascal Struijk

24-year-old Dutch defender Struijk is rehabilitating at Thorp Arch after season-ending hernia surgery. His contribution to Leeds United‘s efforts before his injury are not to be overlooked.

This season, he has three goals to his name and a reputation for being a solid and dependable centre-back. Struijk showed what he was capable of when Leeds were in the Premier League and he’d be another likely to leave if promotion doesn’t materialise for Daniel Farke’s side.
