Bad News;New signing injured on debut

Michael Klass, a recent addition to Maidstone United, has been added to the team’s injury list.

Prior to last week’s transfer deadline, Klass signed from National League South promotion rival Worthing, although he currently has a hamstring issue.

After being replaced at halftime, Klass’s great Good Friday debut against Eastbourne was cut short, and he was unable to participate in the Easter Monday draw against Welling.

The midfield player is still out as United travels to Taunton tonight for a rescheduled match; however, due to a pitch inspection this morning, there is a chance that the match will be rescheduled.

George Elokobi, manager of Maidstone, stated, “He felt some tightness in his hamstring and we have to make sure we are not too hasty in rushing him back.”

“We must take care of him. We’ll see where we stand once he needs a week or so more.

At Eastbourne, where he was undoubtedly the best player before going off, Elokobi liked what he saw in Klass.

He’ll be useful when the season comes to an end after recovering from his injury.

Elokobi remarked, “He’s a good addition, but he’s still learning our environment and it’s important we don’t run before we can walk.”

“We brought him in for that reason. He can break down opposing lines, is very composed when in possession, and has a nice combination of short- and long-range passing.

“Not only that, but he knows the game even when not in possession.”

Maidstone’s recovery from Monday’s 1-1 draw with Welling has been largely interrupted.

If they win tonight’s game, they would jump up to fourth place and get one step closer to guaranteeing a play-off position.

If Taunton wins, they will move up out of the relegation zone.

“This is not the first time we’ve played two games in three days,” Elokobi remarked.

“Two days later, we played Chelmsford in the league and Dartford in the FA Trophy.”

“We need to make sure we take good care of the boys and select the best team for Wednesday night.”

“We will be ready for that game even though we know it’s a difficult place to go.”

Elokobi, meantime, is moving forward with his team’s contract negotiations.

Sam Corne, vice captain, inked a new contract last week, and others are expected to follow.

Elokobi stated, “We talk all the time, but it’s behind closed doors.”

“I can’t tell you who we are chatting to but it’s important we focus on the games we’ve got at the moment.

“Everyone will find out in due course but we have to deal with these games first.”
