With another summer under Ange Postecoglou’s belt about to begin, Tottenham’s revolution under the Australian coach is expected to continue. According to sources, this summer may see Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg replaced by Kieran Dewsbury-Hall of Leicester City.
With two games remaining in a season that has seen ups and downs for the north London team under Postecoglou, the team is currently sitting fifth in the Premier League, just two points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa. Given the history of the top flight, a race for Champions League football is likely to go down to the very last minute.
Postecoglou will be hoping he secures that to continue the good work he has done this season. The club knows that a spot in the top four will significantly increase the list of stars willing to join them. The idea of Champions League football is a huge draw for many of the best players on the continent. However, the team might potentially be considering a rebuild under his direction. While that might cause Hojbjerg to depart for new opportunities, Dewsbury-Hall has been connected ahead of the summer and, according 90min, could be acquired for a guaranteed amount of £25 million.
The player for Leicester City is a candidate for Championship Player of the Season.
AAccording to a talkSPORT report, Tottenham may be considering midfield additions because Hojbjerg is expected to depart the team at the end of the current campaign. They might make a move to sign midfielder Dewsbury-Hall from his boyhood club, which would allow them to return to the East Midlands. They have an excellent relationship with Leicester when they signed James Maddison from the King Power Stadium last summer.
With 11 goals and 13 assists this season, the midfielder—dubbed a “revelation” by former Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers—has been Leicester’s standout player in a Championship campaign that has seen them sleepwalk into a three-horse race with Ipswich and Leeds for the two automatic promotion spots to the top flight.
In comparison, Hojbjerg has only made six Premier League starts this year. The possession-heavy Dewsbury-Hall is expected to replace him, and Hojbjerg’s time in north London is undoubtedly coming to an end as a result of the former Celtic manager’s disfavor.
There may be a belief at Tottenham that Dewsbury-Hall can have an equal impact from his usually deeper position on the field given that Maddison was one of Leicester’s standout players during his time at the King Power Stadium and his success this season with four goals and eight assists in just 20 Premier League starts.
Following Dewsbury-Hall, the pair played together throughout the majority of Maddison’s Foxes tenure.
