Rhian Wilkinson: Wales manager ‘proud’ after….

Jess Fishlock, the player with the most caps for Wales, scored twice, while additional goals from Rachel Rowe and Angharad James made sure that Wales’ Euro 2025 qualification campaign got off to an incredible start.

Wales will now head to Kosovo with the intention of continuing their unbeaten streak.

“I felt so proud,” Wilkinson remarked.

“The gamers are expected to perform certain tasks that they have never performed before.

“We made a few adjustments at halftime, and I was pretty happy with the results. I am proud of myself today.

“However, I believe we can be much more methodical.

“I’m going to chase after performances. I consider my work here to be quite special. We gave a respectable performance tonight, but we want to go better.”

Wilkinson honored Fishlock, the midfield player who spurred Wales with a player-of-the-match display.

“I don’t think Jess has received enough recognition,” she said to BBC Sport Wales.

“On the field she is a huge player for Wales and the way she handles everything as a role model is something special.”

‘The goalscoring record is not something I think about’

With two goals, Fishlock currently trails record-holder Helen Ward by two goals but leads Gareth Bale by one. This makes her Wales’ second-highest goal scorer.

Fishlock could have the chance to surpass or tie Ward’s record as early as Tuesday, when Wales plays their second Euro 2025 qualifying match in Kosovo.

Fishlock told Match of the Day Wales, “I just want to do my best for the team; I don’t think about the record.”

“I won’t dwell on it too much, but I’m sure Helen Ward is keeping a careful eye on it.

“I’m rather pleased with this group.

“Rhian has come in, we’ve only had a couple of days together and we’ve scored four goals and kept a clean sheet.”

Fishlock acknowledges that earning her 150th cap and becoming the first player from Wales to do so will be particularly meaningful.

“Tuesday will be huge, not just for me and my family, but for every women who has put on the Welsh jersey,” she stated.

“It’s not just my moment, it’s for everyone who has come before me and helped me get to this point.”

Wilkinson said that choosing to replace her taliswoman while she was winning a hat-trick was not an easy choice.

“Jess can only play at 100%, so in the end I had to take her off to save her from herself,” she said.
