Town terrorised by ex-Leicester City star…

The supporters of Ipswich Town must have become tired of seeing David Nugent when he was among the most productive attackers in the EFL, since he scored many of his career goals against the Tractor Boys.

Whenever the former Preston North End player saw his name on the teamsheet, supporters of the Suffolk squad shuddered. In total, 15 of his 171 career goals came against the boys in blue.

The Championship goal machine, who has scored goals for four different teams in his career, would consistently find a way to win against the Portman Road team.

Nugent was nearly always Johnny on the Spot, whether it was for Middlesbrough, North End, Portsmouth, or Leicester City.

With six goals in his first four games against the Tractor Boys, Nugent established himself as a fixture at both Deepdale and Portman Road, making an immediate impression on the team early in his playing career.

The forward had only recently joined the Lilywhites from Bury in January 2005, therefore his goal in a 1-1 draw against Joe Royle’s team on his debut start was encouraging.

The England international scored a brace in home and away games in the 2005–06 season, with a 4-0 victory at Portman Road and a 3–1 victory in Lancashire, demonstrating that the Suffolk team ignored the early warning.

When the striker eventually ended up goalless against the Tractor Boys in what would ultimately be his final match with the team while wearing a white shirt, he must have been wondering what went wrong because he soon moved to Portsmouth in the summer of 2007.

Ipswich must have been relieved that the striker had completed his transfer to the Premier League and that they would not have to face their former rival for some time, but that hope was dashed when the FA Cup draw was announced, as a reunion was scheduled for the third round.
