Pedro Gallese, GK, sixThe Peruvian goalie had a respectable, albeit largely boring, performance. Lewis Morgan’s penalty kick was well-taken and beat him to the bottom right corner, despite his accurate prediction. He didn’t have to play again until the second half, when he made Elias Manoel’s header, which had some pace on it, his sole stop of the game. Later in the game, Manoel had another opportunity to score on a breakaway with only Gallese to beat. However, Gallese strayed from his line and made a mistake, causing Manoel’s effort to miss the post by an inch. El Pulpo completed four of his nine long balls, including a crucial pass out, with a success rate of 77.3% on his 22 passes.
D, 6.5, Robin JanssonJansson played a significant role in the Lions’ ability to prevent goals during the play, even if they did not have a perfect record. Throughout the evening, Orlando’s captain put out flames and made a vital save to stop Gjengaar’s shot, which would have probably ended up in the net if Jansson hadn’t stepped in. Nine of his 14 long balls, a team best, reached their target, and he completed an astounding 89 percent of his passes. His first was blocked, and his second eventually went out of play after bouncing off the ground and into a hazardous area. Nevertheless, Thorhallsson performed a good job moving the ball forward, whether it was by dribbling, overlapping runs, or changing the direction of play. Of his 47 passes, he was successful on two of his four long balls, one of his crosses, and 83% of his passes. He recorded a tackle and two clearances on defense. Despite a few errors, it was a successful trip as he continues to learn the
Nico Lodeiro (MF), 6.5 —Lodeiro, who played a deep role in the midfield and did a good job of passing the ball to Orlando’s other skill players, led the Lions with 121 touches, a significant lead. He had a team-high 98 passes, completing 88.8% of them, and connected on six of his seven long balls. The Uruguayan had a tough task breaking lines due to New York flooding the midfield and forcing the Lions wide, but he still had three key passes and provided good service from set pieces when not taking short corners. In addition to having the most tackles (3) on the squad, he also threw in an interception. He also prevailed in three aerial duels in spite of his size. Out of his six crosses, only one was
