Following a stellar season in Nashville, Tennessee State linebacker Monroe Beard is launching his NCAA transfer application. The native of Chattanooga, Tennessee is using the NCAA transfer portal for the second time since he began his college career in 2018. At Tennessee State, Beard had an incredible season, recording 95 tackles in just nine games, four of which were for loss.

This featured 33 tackles in a two-game span against UT Martin and Kennesaw State, as well as five straight games with 11 or more total tackles. With 19 tackles in a game against UT Martin on September 30, he set a new record for TSU and was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.

Beard missed the last two games of the season, but he was still named to the 2023 All Big South-OVC First Team Defense after the season.

In 2018, Monroe Beard enrolled at UAPB as a redshirt freshman. As a redshirt freshman, Beard made an impression by recording 37 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, a team-high three fumble recoveries, and 4.5 tackles for loss.

At Arkansas-Pine Bluff, he finished with 138 career tackles in all, including a career high of 78 tackles (eight and a half tackles for loss) and five sacks in the fall of 2021. Beard is now going to try his luck through the NCAA transfer site, which will leave Tennessee State with a significant void.
