Head coach John Harbaugh has highlighted Lamar Jackson’s impact on the Baltimore Ravens’ draft plan by revealing that the outstanding quarterback may be a major factor in the team’s offensive selections in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Although general managers are usually in charge of selecting players, Jackson will be allocated a portion of that duty. Before the 2018 season, the 27-year-old quarterback seemed close to leaving the team, but he ultimately agreed to a five-year, $260 million deal extension.
Jackson’s performance appeared to be bolstered by his renewed contract, as he won the 2023 NFL MVP award, his second MVP distinction overall. The Ravens were unsteady in the AFC title game, even though they had secured the first seed. The team’s administration does agree, though, that Jackson’s advice on possible rookie recruits is helpful.
“He examines men on video. Harbaugh said, “Lamar has never been afraid to voice his opinions regarding draft choices or free agents. “He hasn’t weighed in quite yet, but he will.”
In the previous season, the Ravens picked wide receiver Zay Flowers in the first round, and he had an impressive debut year. Flowers quickly became one of Jackson’s preferred receivers, ending the season with 77 catches and scoring six touchdowns, including one on the ground.
This year, the Ravens are armed with seven draft picks, including the 30th overall in the first round. They’re set to pick once in each round, barring the sixth, and have a double shot in the seventh.
However, the spotlight is on finding a top-notch receiver following Odell Beckham Jr’s exit. Beckham Jr inked a one-year contract for the 2023 season as the Ravens rolled the dice, meeting his steep demands in hopes of reaping rewards. The move didn’t pan out as expected, yet coach Harbaugh remains eager for a reunion next term.
