Report;Kansas City Mayor Shuts Down Chiefs Moving Talk

Quinton Lucas, the mayor of Kansas City, sought to shut down the Chiefs after learning of the reports that they were relocating to Dallas, but he said nothing about the Royals possibly leaving the city.

Following the defeat of Kansas City’s stadium renovation vote, Dallas mayor Eric Johnson has made no secret of his desire to bring the Chiefs back to their hometown of Dallas. The Chiefs were originally created in 1959 as the Dallas Texans, an American Football League franchise, and moved to Dallas.

Johnson stated to The Athletic last week, “The history is so rich, the connections are so deep.” In fact, we could arrange the arrangements that would allow them to come here.

Johnson acknowledged that he has a good open channel of communication with Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, a native of Dallas, but he wouldn’t go so far as to say he has spoken with him. And that channel of contact is still open.

Conversely, Mayor Lucas doesn’t seem overly concerned about a potential Chiefs move.

The statement made by former Kansas House Speaker Ron Ryckman Jr. following the unsuccessful vote is connected to the “intra-metro” motion he mentioned.

Jackson County made mistakes. We’re in the best position for a scoop and score, so there will be a crazy scramble for the ball now, Ryckman told the Kansas City Star.

The Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball, however, seem to be forgotten a little bit.

The present leases for the Chiefs and Royals at the Truman Sports Complex expire in 2031, and Marny Sherman, the wife of Kansas City Royals owner John Sherman, asserts that Kansas City is no longer home to its professional baseball franchise or its professional football team—at least not in Missouri.

Sherman posted on Facebook last week, saying, “Unfortunately, neither team will work with Jackson County again.”
