Sad News;Diamondbacks Star Player Won’t Plain Again

Geraldo Perdomo, the shortstop for the Arizona Diamondbacks, will have surgery on Monday to fix a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Prior to Sunday’s game against the home Atlanta Braves, Perdomo was placed on the 10-day disabled list.

Torey Lovullo, manager of the Diamondbacks, stated, “It’s definitely a blow to this team, but we’ve got to find a way to overcome it.”

This season, Perdomo, 24, has batted.250 (6-for-24) with two RBIs in seven games.

Perdomo, an All-Star in the previous season, is hitting.222 in 310 career games with Arizona, with 11 home runs and 90 RBIs.

Additionally on Sunday, the Diamondbacks designated right-hander Corbin Martin for assignment and recalled infielder Kevin Newman from Triple-A Reno. In Sunday’s series finale, Blaze Alexander, a rookie, began at shortstop in lieu of Perdomo, while Newman started at second base.

This season, Martin, 28, has appeared in two games for Triple-A Reno and has allowed three runs in three innings.
