Yesterday, the Huddersfield Giants stunned the Catalans Dragons at Perpignan, defeating them 34-6 to advance to the Challenge Cup semi-finals.
Many supporters were taken aback by the outcome, considering the Dragons were heavy favorites to advance. Additionally, as the match was not broadcast on television or radio in England, many were taken aback by the victory’s large margin.
Although the Huddersfield Giants have managed to record some sizable road victories this season, their two most infamous victories came against Hull FC, as Ian Watson’s team twice broke the 50-point mark. The team’s most recent victory also resulted in Tony Smith’s dismissal.
Putting up a huge win over Hull FC is one thing but doing it on the road to the Super League leaders to progress to the Challenge Cup semi-finals is another, and perhaps a sign that Huddersfield Giants should be considered far more in 2024.
Though it was a “humiliating” outcome for Steve McNamara, the Catalans manager responded in his post-match press conference to voice his displeasure with his team’s performance.
It’s terrible, extremely upsetting that we were defeated tonight in every aspect. In his online press conference after the game, the Englishman said, “Huddersfield came and did a really nice job on us.
