Great News;Brooklyn Nets Finally Hired a New Coach

Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that Kevin Young, the associate head coach of the Phoenix Suns, is among the three candidates vying for the head coaching position with the Brooklyn Nets.

Jordi Fernandez of the Sacramento Kings and Mike Budenholzer, who took a year off from coaching and most recently oversaw the championship Milwaukee Bucks team, join Young.

According to Charania, the three candidates will have in-person interviews with Nets owner Joe Tsai, and a decision will be made shortly after.

Being the only member on the Suns’ roster that isn’t a product of Monty Williams’ staff, Young is perceived as the team’s offensive coordinator. Young was a contender to take over as head coach in the summer of last year when Phoenix was replacing Williams before to the hiring of Frank Vogel.

Young reportedly got $2 million as the highest-paid assistant in the league after being retained.

At 116.8 points per 100 possessions, the Suns had the tenth-best offensive rating at the end of the season.

Young would rejoin former Suns wings Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson if he were hired.
