Bad News;Mamelodi Sundowns Star Striker Won’t Play Again

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena has issued an update regarding the injury of midfielder Teboho Mokoena.

Mokwena scored Masandawana’s opening goal in Monday’s 2-2 Premier Soccer League draw with Moroka Swallows.

After scoring in the 39th minute, Mokoena then limped off the pitch four minutes later.

“He just felt a small tweak, and I’m very proud of him,” said Mokwena as per FARPost.

“I always say to them, once you feel something small, don’t take risks. He scored a good goal; he could have celebrated and continued to play because the feel-good hormones take over the pain.

“But he was professional to say, I’ve got something and I’m very proud of him for that.”

Mokoena has established himself as a key Sundowns player and it would be a huge bow if he does not make it for such a big game.

Having been one of Bafana’s standout players at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals, Mokoena is a player who can be trusted for the Esperance assignment.

If he does not recover, coach Mokwena will have to call on the likes of Aubrey Modiba, Bathusi Aubaas or Rivaldo Coetzee.

Having been unimpressive in recent matches, including grinding results and struggling against a lower division team, Masandawana might need to up their game against the Tunisian giants.

They travel to Esperance to face opponents who also sneaked into the semi-finals via a penalty shootout just like Sundowns, after struggling against Asec Mimosas.
