the titans horrible offensive line in 2024

As much as the 2024 NFL Draft is known for its quarterback prospects, the guys up front who protect those quarterbacks will play a pivotal role in this year’s draft as well. There’s potential for up to 10 offensive linemen to hear their names called on Day 1, with Notre Dame’s Joe Alt being at the top of the list.

At 6-foot-9, 321 pounds, Alt is a towering, massive presence on the field. He possesses the size, athleticism, and polish that make him a highly sought-after prospect, especially considering he will only be 21 years old entering his rookie season. For the most part, Alt has virtually every tool and skill to become an immediate impact starter at left tackle, which makes him a perfect fit for the Tennessee Titans to select him at No. 7 overall. Here’s a few more reasons why, too:

In 2023, the Titans offensive line was appalling.

The Titans, who finished at No. 32, had the unique distinction of having the worst offensive line in Pro-Football-Focus (PFF) rankings for the previous season. With 49 sacks, Tennessee’s offensive line allowed the most in the NFL during the previous season.

With an overall grade of 71.6, center Aaron Brewer was rated as the team’s best offensive lineman. His pass-blocking grade of 52.5, however, left much to be desired. But then, so did the pass-blocking of the entire team, with Chris Hubbard, the tackle, receiving the best grade of 67.8.

According to Zoltán Buday of PFF, “many expected the Titans’ offensive line to be the worst in the league, and they failed to defy expectations.” “This season, the unit ranked lowest in pass-blocking efficiency.”

The fact that their quarterbacks were hurt last year makes it clear how awful this team was. Ryan Tannehill, the starting quarterback at the time, sprained his ankle against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6, missing a large portion of the season as a result. To be fair, that did give the Titans a chance to evaluate Will Levis, a second-round pick. However, in Weeks 15 and 17, in the latter half of the season, Levis sustained injuries that all but ruined his career.

Over the previous two seasons at Notre Dame, Alt allowed just eight quarterback pressures and one sack in about 800 pass-blocking reps. Protecting Levis must be Brian Callahan’s top priority as the new head coach, which makes Alt the ideal selection choice for

Titans are released Andre Dillard to give way to Joe Alt.

The Titans have already made adjustments to their offensive line since the start of the 2018 NFL season, starting with the dismissal of tackle Andre Dillard. The Titans were able to free up $10.66 million in cap space in addition to effectively creating space for Joe Alt to join the team.

Well, the Titans selected offensive lineman Peter Skoronski in the first round of the previous draft, so it’s not exactly a flashy first-round selection for the second year in a row. However, considering how highly regarded Alt is and how much the Titans need left tackles, it would be a fairly good-looking pick.
