Vikings expected to pick up $16 million option

Since the regime change two years ago, the Minnesota Vikings have experienced a significant amount of roster churn, but one important piece of the puzzle will undoubtedly remain in place for as long as feasible.

Christian Darrisaw, a left tackle, will begin his fourth season in 2024 on a four-year rookie deal worth $13.55 million. Additionally, the offensive lineman has a fifth-year option on his contract that the Vikings can exercise by early May. He was previously selected by the Vikings in the first round of the NFL draft (No. 23 overall in 2021).

This will cost Minnesota more than $16 million for the 2025 season, but considering Darrisaw’s output in his first three professional seasons and a projected market value of $24.6 million per year over a new four-year contract (nearly $98.5 million in total), according to Spotrac, that is a reasonable price to pay.

On April 17, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay made the prediction that the Vikings would quickly decide to exercise Darrisaw’s fifth-year option.

“[Penei] Sewell, [Rashawn] Slater and Darrisaw have all developed into franchise tackles for their respective teams,” Kay wrote. “While health has been a slight issue for the latter two, both have established themselves as anchors in the offensive trenches.”
