The Nepalese national cricket team has qualified for the semifinal of the ACC Men’s Premier Cup. Nepal’s win against Hong Kong and then Malaysia’s defeat to Qatar confirmed Nepal’s place in the top four.
Nepal bagged a dominant eight-wicket win over Hong Kong on Monday while Malaysia were stunned by four wickets against Qatar.
Nepal is placed in Group A of the tournament alongside Malaysia, Hong Kong, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Having clinched victories in three successive games, Nepal currently holds six points from three matches and are at the top of the table. In contrast, Malaysia, Qatar, and Hong Kong each have accrued two points after playing three matches. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has secured one win and one loss in two matches. Nepal will play the last group-stage game against Saudi Arabia on April 17.
In Group B, Oman leads the table with six points earned from three matches. Kuwait and the UAE follow closely with four points each from three matches, while Cambodia and Bahrain have yet to secure a win.
The team that emerges as the winner of Group A will go head-to-head against the second-placed team from Group B, whereas the top team from Group B will match up against the runner-up from Group A in the semifinal clash.
The winner of the tournament will book a place in the Asia Cup 2025. Nepal are the defending champions of the tournament having won the title in 2023. They defeated UAE on the reserve day to clinch the title.
