WHAT HAPPENED?
Humphrey Mlwane, a former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, has pleaded with the team not to extend Dillon Sheppard’s contract for the upcoming campaign.
Following the appointment of Gavin Hunt as head coach in 2020, the Chiefs added the former Bafana Bafana winger to their technical team.
And now since he feels he hasn’t done anything for the Soweto giants since joining the club, Mlwane feels Amakhosi are doing Sheppard a favor.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID
“The club cannot be seen as doing favours for some people because, at the end of the day, it is all about the team and the results,” Humphrey Mlwane told Soccer Laduma.
“I’m sorry to say this because I may be seen as someone pushing for one of our own to lose his job, but the team isn’t making any progress, and everyone can see that. The team isn’t going anywhere.
“Yes, he Dillon (Sheppard) is a South African and one of us, but it doesn’t seem like he has done anything to help improve the team’s situation,” he added.
“He can go and try elsewhere. I’ve heard that his contract is nearing an end, and I don’t see why it would be difficult for him and the club to part ways.
“It’s not like they will be owing each other and things like that. The chiefs need to bring a new technical team altogether and start all over again.”
