WHAT HAPPENED?
Brandon Truter, the former coach of the Moroka Swallows, has found employment at Upington City, a National First Division (NFD) team.
This week, rumors circulated that Truter was about to take a quiet break from coaching and head back to the dugout.
The Northern Cape-based team made the former AmaZulu coach’s appointment public on Friday afternoon.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Brakkies, as the coach is known, has been without a club after parting ways with in-form Sekhukhune United in November 2023.
City, who are under the tutelage of Thulani Nkosi, have been in poor form of late, which saw them ending their chances of securing promotion to the PSL.
In the statement, City indicated that Truter will be part of their technical team. The club did not specify whether Nkosi will be demoted or the two will co-coach going forward.
DID YOU KNOW?
Truter guided the Swallows to winning the NFD league title and helped them return to the top flight in the 2019/2020 season.
The Dube Birds were relegated from the local first tier at the end of the 2014/15 season.
WHAT’S NEXT?
City have 18 points to play for, as the team lies in position nine, with 33 points after 24 games. The coach will be hoping to help the team at least qualify for the playoffs.
The first match for Truter at Bafana Ba Gucci, will be against Black Leopards on Saturday, April 20, at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium.
