Oklahoma’s Patty Gasso: Softball’s New Replay Rules

NORMAN —Kierston Deal continued to proceed smoothly on Sunday.

OU’s sophomore pitcher, making her first weekend start since March 30, delivered, allowing only two singles in seven innings as the No. 2 Sooners defeated Houston 5-0 at Love’s Field to complete a sweep.

Deal only needed one walk to strike out ten.

Bree Cantu singled to short right field after Deal retired the first batter in the fifth inning, maintaining her no-hitter.

“Today’s pitching performance was outstanding,” commented Sooners head coach Patty Gasso.

Cantu’s hit snapped a streak of 11 consecutive no-hit innings after she threw a six-inning no-hitter in Tuesday’s win over Tulsa.

The Sooners (42-4, 18-3 Big 12) have won five consecutive games and maintained their one-game lead atop the conference.

Deal (10-1) got off to a hot start, retiring the first five batters she faced — with four consecutive strikeouts after the game started with a flyout to left.
