Moroka Swallows send a strong warning to Orlando Pirates

    • WHAT HAPPENED

Former Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho sent a strong warning to the Buccaneers as he scored a last-minute goal to help Swallows beat Cape Town Spurs 1-0 at Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams started a game a bit higher, trying to find a way to penetrate each other, with Spurs having forced Swallows’ Ntsikelelo Nyauza and Ntsikelelo Ngqonga to receive yellow cards each early in the game.

However, the visitors took control of the match a few moments later and had chances to open the scoring, but there was nothing to show for the Swallows’ average of 59% ball possession in the first-half.

Chances have been few and far between for both teams, but it was the Swallows who looked much happier with the first-time display and controlled the ball more than Spurs.

Referee Sikhumbuzo Gasa blew for half-time after 45 minutes without a breakthrough.

The second-half was not much different from the first 45 minutes as the two teams tried to pile pressure on each other but failed to score.

The host took a bit of control of the game along the way, but there was nothing positive to show. Ultimately, It was Mhango who became the hero and netted the winning goal in the 89th minute.

      THE MVP

Experienced defender Kwanda Mngonyama led the Swallows back-line very well and he was the best player on the field.

The 33-year-old was named the Man of the Match after his impressive performance against Spurs.

      THE BIGGER LOSER

Ernst Middendorp and his charges were the biggest losers as they failed to capitalize their important chances.

Spurs are in big trouble looking at their situation in the PSL table, as they will need a miracle to survive the relegation axe.
