Texas Longhorns Captain out on devastating injury

AUSTIN — Jordan Whittington is set to begin his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams after being selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft last week.

Getting picked was the first step. The second? Receiving his first-ever NFL jersey number.

Whittington, a former wide receiver for the Texas Longhorns, will wear No. 88 for the Rams in his first season, giving him a fresh look. Before the 2023 season, he wore No. 13 after wearing No. 4 during his first four years of college.

Although the Rams’ 2024 draft class jerseys haven’t been formally released on the team website, NFL Jersey Numbers on X (Twitter) has been sharing the numbers for other teams on social media.

Los Angeles general manager Les Snead stated after the draft that the Rams certainly see something in Whittington, even though there was no certainty he would be selected.

Snead remarked of his talks with participants in the Texas program, “There was one thing everyone said: Jordan’s our heartbeat.”

Whittington played in 41 career games (25 starts) across five seasons in Austin. He ranks 12th in program history with 141 receptions, and 14th with 1,757 receiving yards. He had six touchdowns during his time at Texas.
