The FC Cincinnati striker Aaron Boupendza is anticipated to be out for six to eight weeks as he heals from a broken jaw sustained in an off-field incident, the team said on Wednesday.
The Gabonese international moved from Saudi Pro League team Al-Shabab FC to Cincinnati last summer as a designated player. He assisted in Brenner’s departure from Cincinnati to join Udinese of Serie A.
Boupendza has subsequently recorded 7 goals and 1 assist in 20 league games (11 starts). In four Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoff games, he also recorded one goal and one assist, assisting Cincy in winning their first-ever Supporters’ Shield.
Boupendza has recently lost his starting position as Cincy has started using Corey Baird and Yuya Kubo as strikers. Kevin Kelsy, a striker for the Venezuelan national team, was also recently brought to the team on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk, a dominant team in Ukraine.
Heading into Matchday 12, Cincy are second in the Eastern Conference with 18 points (5W-2L-3D).
