For £3 million in January of last year, Ashby left West Ham United to join Newcastle. He scored in a 2-1 victory over Rangers on his preseason debut for The Magpies last summer, but he is yet to make his competitive debut for the team.
“A big thank you to everyone involved at @swansofficial, a club filled with incredible people, people I’ve made friends for life, and an unbelievable fan base, want to wish them the best of luck for the future,” wrote Ashby on Instagram after Swansea’s Championship season, which ended with them finishing 14th. When Ashby gets back to Newcastle, an evaluation will be conducted before his future is decided. The 22-year-old is back in the right-back lineup, behind Emil Krafth, Kieran Trippier, and Tino Livramento.
He will not be eligible to play in the Premier League for Newcastle once his loan at Swansea ends since he is over 21 and is not included in the team’s 25-man roster for the 2023–24 season.
