After calling the defender “outstanding,” Chris Wilder has given the strongest indication yet that Jayden Bogle will play a significant role for Sheffield United in the future. Despite being one of United’s most reliable players since Wilder’s return in December, Bogle, a former Derby County defender, is one of 13 senior players without a contract this summer.
At just 23 years old, Bogle just reached the 100-appearance milestone for the Blades—a remarkable accomplishment given his recent rivalry with George Baldock—while his five goals in the Premier League are the most of any defender for United. The Star is aware that one of the players, Bogle, has a contract option that would enable United to prolong it for an additional year, but the Blades might want to keep him on for a longer period of time.In September 2020, Bogle joined United in a double-deal with Pride Park’s Max Lowe, reported by the national media to be valued at up to £15 million. The charge for the couple was, in fact, over a quarter of that sum. When asked if he thought Bogle would play a role for United in the future, Wilder said, “Hopefully.” He has performed admirably. When we brought him into the building, both he and Max had a lot of background knowledge.
In terms of the figures, it was probably one of the club’s better deals. I believe the total amount paid to them was less than £4 million. It’s fantastic that we have the Premier League’s top scorer for a defender, and he has had some really amazing performances this season. His future will take care of itself, that much is certain.
“Both his performances and his demeanor around the place have been excellent. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, neither Ollie Arblaster nor he are being pursued. He has secured his post and is carrying out his duties with diligence. He has performed admirably.
This summer, United may place greater emphasis on resolving Bogle’s contract after hearing rumors in Greece that Baldock has signed a three-year contract to play for Panathinaikos in his adoptive country. In January, United signed talented right-back Sam Curtis on a free transfer. Femi Seriki, another young player, was also signed by United until 2027 before being sent on loan to nearby Rotherham United.
