After the Lions signed Penei Sewell and Amon-Ra St. Brown to long-term contracts two weeks ago, attention in Detroit has turned to the position that matters most in sports: quarterback.
Jared Goff has revived his career with the Lions after going from being a disappointing former No. 1 overall pick in Los Angeles to a dependable asset under center in Detroit. He should get paid like one shortly. All you’ll need is a little persistence.
Lions general manager Brad Holmes stated, “He’s earned an extension,” on Thursday when making an interview on Detroit’s 97.1 The Ticket. It’s significant, and we give it top priority. Everybody is putting in a ton of work. Simply put, these things take time.”
Goff stated in April that he would “love to be” in Detroit “for a long time.” He has already gone on record on several times to express gratitude for the January 2021 trade that took him from Los Angeles to Detroit and provided him a fresh start. Given that he was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2022 and guided the Lions to their first division title in thirty years in 2023 while playing for offensive coordinator Ben Johnson—who decided to stay with the Lions in 2024 rather than take a head coaching position elsewhere—Goff has every right to feel this way.
