Mitchell Marsh, the captain of Australia, is progressing more slowly than anticipated, but the all-rounder will still be able to bowl in the next T20 World Cup in the Americas, according to Australia’s coach Andrew McDonald on Tuesday.
In order to recuperate from a right hamstring injury prior to the shortest format’s main event, Marsh, a player for the Delhi Capitals, returned from the Indian Premier League in early April.
Besides Marsh, members of Australia’s World Cup squad who are not part of IPL assembled here on Tuesday for a training camp before jetting off for the Caribbean on May 25.
“You probably won’t see him bowl in the next couple of weeks here. It’ll probably happen the week before we leave. And then he’ll be able to ramp that up when we’re over there.
“In any case, we have some all-around depth in the group, so we can pick and choose the times throughout the tournament when he’ll be helpful with the ball,” he continued.
McDonald stated that Marsh’s lack of match practice over the previous two months was not a cause for concern because Australia will play some practice matches prior to their opening T20 World Cup encounter against Oman on June 5.
“There’s no need to worry about match fitness. During the support time, we have a few practice matches when we go to Trinidad. He will therefore probably have many opportunity to play.
