The Georgia football program’s most recent driving-related issue, as the wide receiver for the Bulldogs was taken into custody and later released
According to the Athens-Clarke County (Ga.) jail files, Georgia football player Sacovie White was taken into custody early on Saturday morning on suspicion of reckless driving and driving on a one-way street. After being detained at 3:04 a.m. for approximately an hour, White was released on two $26 bonds.
The arresting officer’s report, which was obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, said that White was driving at a high speed in the wrong way with a passenger hanging out the window of the automobile. At 2:06 a.m. on Saturday, the policeman stopped White in the heart of downtown Athens.
According to the report, White “showed complete disregard for the safety of his passengers, himself, and innocent civilians.” The Bulldogs rookie also presented a risk to the public, especially since the alleged incident occurred during “a time of high pedestrian traffic as people were leaving bars,” the report said.
The report also notes that White cooperated with the police officer after being pulled over and was taken into custody without incident.
Staff members of Georgia football have been engaged in a number of driving-related mishaps; the most well-known one occurred on January 15, 2023, and claimed the lives of offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting worker Chandler LeCroy.
According to the AJC, White’s arrest marks the seventeenth driving-related incident in which members of the Georgia football team have been arrested or cited for a traffic-related infraction since January 2023.
The most recent incident before White’s arrest included transfer running back Trevor Etienne, who was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, and two misdemeanor counts.
