The Oregon State baseball team won the No. 2 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament, which is scheduled to start on Tuesday, after defeating Arizona in the last series of the regular season and losing in the final game in a de facto Pac-12 regular season championship game.The Beavers (41-13, 19-10 Pac-12) will play pool play against No. 8 Stanford on Wednesday to begin the tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona. They have been ranked in the top-10 of the majority of major collegiate baseball polls all season.This is how the competition operates.
Pac-12 Tournament format
The top nine teams in the league will compete in round-robin pool play starting on Tuesday and continuing through Thursday in the Pac-12 Tournament. After being divided into three pods, or pools, each team will face the other two in the hopes of advancing to the semifinals.Together with one wild card team, the top three pool winners will move on to the single-elimination semifinals on Friday. The top three non-advancing teams’ record will decide who gets the wild card. The team with the highest seed will advance if all teams finish 1-1 in pool play since that team will receive the ball in any tiebreaker.
The top-seeded team will play the bottom-seeded team in the semifinals, while the second-seeded team will play the second-lowest on one side. But in the semifinals, teams from the same pool will not face one another.Every team will play two games in the pool from Tuesday through Thursday. Saturday at 7 p.m. is the title game, with the semifinals starting on Friday. All of the games, with the exception of the title game, which will be on ESPNU, will be televised on Pac-12 Network.
Pac-12 Tournament outlook
The No. 2 seed in the tournament, the Beavers take on No. 8 Stanford in pool play on Wednesday and No. 5 Arizona State on Thursday, both at 10 a.m.In addition to winning two out of three versus Stanford and sweeping ASU, Oregon State prevailed in both of its regular season series against the Cardinal and Sun Devils. In early April, the Beavers defeated the Sun Devils at Goss Stadium, 13-8, 9-1, and 9-7. They defeated Stanford at Goss the following week, winning 6-0 and 3-1 in the first two games, before losing the Sunday finale 11-10.The Beavers would play in the semifinals on Friday at either 2:30 or 7 p.m. if they advance from pool play.

All season long, the Beavers were ranked in the top 10 in the majority of major collegiate baseball polls. They prevailed in eight out of ten conference series, including three sweeps.In non-conference games, Oregon State had a 22-3 record. In neutral sites, they had an 8-1 record, a 24-2 record in Corvallis, and a 9-10 record on actual road games.No. 7 Utah, No. 9 Washington, No. 5 Arizona State, No. 8 Stanford, No. 3 Oregon, Washington State, UCLA, and No. 1 Arizona are among the teams the Beavers have defeated in series. OSU was swept by No. 4 USC and No. 6 Cal in two of their series losses; however, the third game between the Beavers and Trojans was postponed due to inclement weather.
Travis Bazzana, an Oregon State standout with a.429 average, 26 home runs, 62 RBIs, and 31 stolen bases, is a future first-round choice in the MLB. Another player to keep an eye on is Gavin Turley, who leads the club in RBIs with 69, a.293 average, and 18 home runs.As the Friday starter, Aiden May has been outstanding this year, pitching 59 innings with 68 strikeouts with a perfect 6-0 record and 2.59 ERA. Jacob Kmatz has also performed admirably, recording 79 strikeouts in 75 innings and a 3.48 ERA. pitching record of 6-2.Joey Mundt has a 1.69 ERA over 26 2/3 innings with 29 strikeouts, and Bridger Holmes has a 2.25 ERA with 41 strikeouts over 28 innings pitched, despite the Beavers’ occasionally troubled bullpen performance.
