UN Women and the women’s cricket team UP Warriorz collaborate 

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchise UP Warriorz, owned by Capri Sports, has been named a ‘Generation Equality Ally’ by UN Women, which is a huge boost to women’s cricket in India.
UN Women is spearheading a movement called Generation Equality, which calls for equal pay, equitable distribution of unpaid care and household labor, an end to sexual harassment and all forms of violence against women and girls, responsive health care services, and equal access to political and decision-making opportunities in all spheres of life.

UP Warriorz has been recognized by UN Women, an organization inside the UN devoted to women’s empowerment and gender equality, as a “Generation Equality Ally.” UP Warriorz, an Indian women’s cricket team playing in the WPL and representing the state of Uttar Pradesh, will be the first sports organization to join the ranks of UN Women’s carefully chosen Generation Equality Allies, who are committed to promoting gender equality worldwide.The main goal of UN Women’s engagement with the cricket team is to promote equality in sports and tackle the misconceptions that face female athletes.

Through targeted interventions in education, learning and development, and menstrual health awareness in Uttar Pradesh and abroad, UP Warriorz is actively addressing the obstacles to women’s empowerment. Director of Capri Sports Jinisha Sharma stated, “We are thrilled to collaborate with UN Women to maximize the impact of our programs and use this platform to champion change.” “We want to make an impression both on and off the field.”
As a Generation Equality Ally, UP Warriorz will vigorously promote through print, internet, and audio-visual media for closing the numerous gender disparities in sports leading up to International Women’s Day in 2024.””Sports may be a very effective instrument for empowering women. I’m excited to introduce UP Warriorz as our first sports-related “Generation Equality Ally.” UN Women’s Country Representative Susan Ferguson remarked, “This partnership is a significant step towards challenging gender norms and stereotypes in sports and aligns perfectly with our mission to advocate for a gender-equal world.”

Through the power of sports, particularly cricket, UP Warriorz will empower girls to go after their goals, defy gender stereotypes, and become change agents in their local communities. The group participated in #AbKoiBahanaNahi, UN Women’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign, which was seen by millions of people on social media.In order to start the dialogue on creating a society that is gender-equal, UN Women India started the Generation Equality Allyship program in 2021 with a group of gender activists, brands, influential people, and media outlets from various industries.
