Detroit City FC’s run in the U.S. Open Cup came to a crashing end Wednesday.

Le Rouge gave up three first-half goals and never recovered, falling 3-0 to Indy Eleven in a Round of 16 match at IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium.

It marked an abrupt end to the tournament run for Detroit City FC, which earned a berth in the U.S. Open Cup’s Round of 16 with a thrilling 3-3 victory (10-9 on penalties) at MLS side Houston Dynamo on May 7.

An own-goal spotted Indy Eleven a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, and the hosts took control with goals three minutes apart. Augustine Williams scored in the 33rd minute, and Ben Ofeimu made it 3-0 in the 36th minute to stake Indy Eleven to the 3-0 halftime lead.

Detroit City FC was unable to make a dent in the deficit, with the teams playing a scoreless second half.

It was the second meeting this season between the two teams, with Detroit City FC coming from behind in a 2-1 victory March 30 in Indianapolis.

Detroit City FC returns to action next Wednesday at Louisville City FC.
