Great News for Tennessee Volunteers

The Tennessee Volunteers defeated the LSU Tigers in the SEC Tournament Championship to cap off an incredible season. Despite losing in the opening round, the Volunteers persevered to win the championship. This is the program’s fifth-ever SEC Tournament victory.

By throwing a lot of arms in their bullpen, both teams were able to save their starting pitchers for the NCAA Regionals.

AJ Russell took the mound for Tennessee and gave up a single run in his inning of work. Dylan Loy pitched 4.2 scoreless innings after that. This made it all for Loy. In this game, Aaron Combs, Kirby Connell, and Andrew Behnke all threw.

Nate Ackenhausen began for LSU and pitched 2.2 scoreless innings. Fidel Ulloa trailed behind, failing to find a way out. He was given the loss after giving up three runs. Samuel Dutton and Christian Little pitched scoreless innings until Thatcher Hurd entered the game and gave up one run. Kade Anderson, Will Hellmers, and Justin Loer all pitched scoreless innings.

Early on in the game, the Tigers scored. Jared Jones gives LSU an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a full-count pitch that travels 472 feet.

Up until the third inning, this lead persisted. Billy Amick was scored on by both Blake Burke and Christian Moore. After receiving a 0-1 pitch, he launches it into left field for a three-run home run. Tennessee now leads 3-1 as a result.

Hunter Ensley’s run-scoring single in the seventh inning gave Tennessee an additional score. The Volunteers now led 4-1 as a result.

As the ninth inning approaches, LSU begins to mount a comeback. Hayden Travinski was scored by Steven Milam with a ground-rule double, and Milam also scored on an error. The final score was 4–3. Tennessee’s victory was secured by Aaron Combs, who replied by striking out two batters in the mound.

Due to their outstanding regular season record, Tennessee receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will serve as the host of a regional. They are currently the top-ranked team in the nation with a 50-11 season record.

With the selection show on Monday, we will all know who Tennesee will play in the NCAA Regionals.
