Despite the Clarets being demoted to the Championship, Scott Twine’s future at Burnley seems uncertain.
The attacking midfielder, who began the season with Hull City and moved on loan to Bristol City in January, played all of the 2023–24 season in the second division.
The 24-year-old’s campaign was disappointing, and his summer 2022 transfer from MK Dons to Turf Moor didn’t exactly go as planned. Burnley may try to cash in on him once they choose a new manager.
The Sun has stated that Twine is being pursued by Birmingham City, an ambitious League One team; Bristol City, who recruited him on loan last season, and Sunderland are other potential suitors.
Former England international and current EFL pundit Carlton Palmer, who made this prediction exclusively for Football League World, believes Twine will transfer permanently to Ashton Gate this summer, citing his friendship with Robins manager Liam Manning as the decisive factor.
Palmer stated: “Scott Twine, an attacking midfielder for Burnley, is reportedly planning to quit the team this summer.
“He is eager to play regular football outside of Turf Moor.” Although he has an injury that has limited his playing time, teams like Bristol City, Sunderland, and Birmingham City all have a lot of respect for the player since he can play anywhere in the middle of the park.
“I think Scott would be thrilled to collaborate with Liam Manning at Bristol City once more. He has to be playing since he performed incredibly well under him.
“He hasn’t played much since Burnley was promoted to the Premier League and has sustained a few injuries, so he won’t want to join a team where he won’t be able to play football.
“I believe Liam Manning of Bristol City, who is well-versed in the player and has shown success with him in the past, will be the front-runner.
“When you consider teams like Birmingham, I doubt he’ll want to move down to League One, but Hull is rumored to be interested in him as well.
“Given the history between the player and the manager, I believe Bristol City and Liam Manning will provide him with an advantage as he will want to play at the highest level possible.”
Twine has a thing to make since his career has largely stagnated in previous seasons, regardless of where he plays next season.
He played in just 18 games for Burnley during their winning season, and once they were promoted, it was decided he wasn’t good enough to stay at Turf Moor.
Twine is still young, though, and it’s evident that he’s still highly valued because several teams are vying for his signing this summer.
The 24-year-old’s next move is vital, and if he can’t count on a regular starting spot at Burnley, he should sign with a team where he’ll probably play almost every game.
An injury sustained in just his second game at Ashton Gate ended Twine’s stay there, but manager Liam Manning regularly started him when he was well and available.
Twine may find it enticing to leave because he has experience working with Manning, but he needs to make sure that wherever he ends up, he will always be able to play regular football.
The 2024–2025 season is expected to be a major one for Twine, who will be eager to prove a point to Burnley if he is moved this summer, following a somewhat poor couple of seasons for his high standards.
