According to reports, the club’s chairman, who was once in the DStv Premiership, is the front-runner to acquire Moroka Swallows.
As previously reported, the Soweto titans have established a minimum asking price of R40 million, and the Dube Birds have been considering bids from other interested parties.
Despite a number of setbacks, primarily brought on by their financial problems, Swallows persevered and concluded the 2023–24 season in a secure position.
They finished in 14th place, two points ahead of Richards Bay FC, who are now competing in the PSL Promotional Playoffs, and narrowly above the playoff slot.
The present Swallows management, led by Chairman David Mogashoa, is prepared to relinquish control of the team. They have been in charge since 2019 when they acquired the Motsepe Foundation Championship status from Maccabi FC.
OWNER OF THE TOP-RANTING SECOND-TIER CLUB FOR SWALLOWS FRANCHISE
Owner of the Marumo Gallants Abram Sello is presently leading the battle to acquire the Dube Birds franchise, according to FARPost.
The businessman and pharmacist, who was born in Limpopo, is reported to have offered roughly R45 million to persuade Mogashoa and his gang to cede ownership.
Many are surprised to see Sello’s name among the prospective purchasers given rumors that his current team, Marumo Gallants, is supposedly bankrupt.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa finished the previous season at eleventh in the second-tier standings.
Surprisingly, one of the main bidders appears to be Lawrence Mulaudzi, the owner of Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila, another former DStv Premiership club.
WHAT AMOUNT DOES LAWRENCE MULAUDZI OFFER?
Sello is the front-runner to get the status after Afrik-foot exclusively learned that he put R40 million on the table.
Nonetheless, it seems that the parties are still in communication and that a decision has not yet been taken.
Mulaudzi is accustomed to playing football in South Africa. In 2017, he acquired Milano United, his first professional team. And in 2020, he made the startling decision to purchase Bidvest Wits and then sell the status to Marumo Gallants a year later.
He acquired the Championship status of Royal AM in 2021, before to his team’s drop to the ABC Motsepe League in the previous season.
The report from FARPost also revealed that Cape Town Spurs enquired about Swallows’ sale. However, they have yet held talks with the Soweto-based side.
The Urban Warriors suffered relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship after finishing the season on the bottom of the table.
