In an attempt to lock down the 24-year-old before his current contract expires at the end of this month, the Premier League team has made him an upgraded five-year contract offer.
If West Ham and Johnson are unable to come to an agreement, Johnson will become a free agent in a few weeks, thus anyone interested in signing him won’t have to pay a fee because of his contract position.
The English right-back is reportedly considering his choices, and where he can advance and improve his game the most will determine what he decides to do in the end.
The former England youth international has played in midfield and all four back positions in 109 club appearances since rising through the ranks.
Johnson was strongly linked to leaving the London Stadium in January after his opportunities were limited in the first half of the previous campaign. However, David Moyes gave him greater playing time following the new year.
