On the fringes of the National Assembly’s first meeting, Steenhuisen made the news. He claims that today is historic for the nation.
“The DA and the leaders of the DA, IFP, and ANC signed a statement of intent for GNU after two weeks of negotiations that ended only after the sitting began. In the provinces of GP and KZN, DA will hold both national and provincial government positions.
Steenhuisen continues, “It will take time to find solutions for issues like unemployment, crime, and corruption.” Voters, he argues, should remember that the nation’s problems will require years of arduous work.
“South Africa has some of the highest rates of unemployment and crime in the world, as well as advanced declines in infrastructure and logistics, and widespread corruption.” We shouldn’t all be expecting these issues to be resolved quickly. To put our nation back on track, years of consistent hard effort, tenacity, maturity, and collaboration among all facets of society will be required.
