OTAs have evolved throughout time. The mandatory minicamp has been recorded. The spring leg of the New York Jets’ offseason schedule is now complete; training camp is up next.
The Jets will take more than a month off until the squad meets again in late July for training camp. July 23 is the formal start of Jets training camp, allowing players plenty of time to recover in preparation for what looks to be an exciting 2024 campaign.
But before training camp begins, let’s review some of the events that have already transpired this spring. Which athletes seen an increase in their stock? Whose stocks fell off the most?
Now that mandatory minicamp is officially over, let’s look at seven of the biggest Jets standouts from spring workouts.
Tyron Smith is a future Hall of Fame left tackle, so the Jets are obviously being cautious with him this season. They have him on a limited practice schedule to make sure he stays healthy for the duration of the campaign.
Smith skipped a few sessions during OTAs and minicamp this spring, indicating that the plan was already taking shape. But Smith appeared to be among the NFL’s top left tackles when he was on the field.
Smith was “utterly dominant” this spring, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, who also pointed out that the 33-year-old was seldom ever defeated in team or individual drills.
Smith is one of the most valued and significant guys on the Jets’ team when you combine it with his evident leadership. The Jets are making every effort to keep him healthy this season, so there are no indications that rust or aging are impairing his play.
