New York Jets QB speaks out

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers of the New York Jets has finally opened up about his contentious absence from the team’s required minicamp. The Hall of Famer gave the impression that minicamps aren’t all that much more significant than OTAs, which seemed to minimize their significance.

In a recent interview with the podcast Pardon My Take, Aaron Rodgers stated, “They can arbitrarily put a tag on whatever week of OTAs they want and say, ‘This is the minicamp week,’ which makes it somehow more mandatory than the other weeks.” (h/t Rich Cimini of ESPN)

It was an OTA schedule, though. That’s why words can occasionally be a little misleading. They can fabricate a tale about my missing minicamp, but in reality, there were only two OTA days, and I attended the first ten,” Rodgers continued.

Recall that in June, Jets head coach Robert Saleh told the media that Rodgers skipped the aforementioned required minicamp due to a “very important event” in his life. Saleh added that although Rodgers had told him about the incident, Saleh’s absence had not been excused.

Later on, it was revealed that Rodgers’ absence was due to a scheduled vacation to Egypt.

At least some of Rodgers’ colleagues did not take offense at all when he decided to proceed with his trip to Africa in the midst of the minicamp, as reported earlier this July by NFL insider Connor Hughes of SNY.

“Several players that SNY spoke with indicated that they had no problems with Rodgers skipping minicamp and that he was present for the optional part. Hughes writes, “Those same players were taken aback by the fact that people who weren’t at One Jets Drive thought otherwise.
