Nottingham Forest close to signing a new player

After leaving Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town are vying for Kelechi Iheanacho’s signature, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old’s contract at the King Power expired last month, and both Premier League teams have expressed interest in signing him on a free transfer.

Although clubs in Greece and Turkey have already made bids to Iheanacho, Forest and Ipswich are hoping to persuade him to stay in England.

In an attempt to win the race for the striker’s signature, the clubs are now prepared to present the player with formal contract proposals.

After moving from Manchester City to Leicester in 2017, Iheanacho played with the team for seven years, making 232 appearances and tallying 61 goals.

Over the course of six seasons with the Foxes, he scored 30 goals in the Premier League.

The previous season, he failed to get consistent playing time in the Championship, starting just 12 games while averaging 42 minutes per game and scoring six goals.

Forest and Ipswich are still eager to give him another chance at Premier League football despite his decline in performance.

Now that they’ve been promoted to the Premier League, Ipswich has become a late candidate for his signature as they try to bolster their offensive options.

Aston Villa was one of the other interested parties, but since Jhon Duran hasn’t finalized a move out, their interest has waned.
