Transfer Update

Chesterfield is examining the juvenile under trial while they consider their options. They will be trying to maintain their momentum as they get ready for life again in League Two after being promoted from the National League.

The 20-year-old parted ways with Cardiff City at the conclusion of the last campaign after the Championship team declined to renew his contract. He will be weighing his options in the game after becoming a free agency in late June.

He’s been on trial with the Spirerites lately, according to the Derbyshire Times. Next Friday is Paul Cook’s team’s home opener against Swindon Town. After that, they go to Derby County for the Carabao Cup. First up, though, is a friendly against Scunthorpe United.

Chesterfield needs to decide whether or not to hire Benjamin.

He would strengthen the defensive unit of the Spirerites if he joined. He is of a respectable age and could grow in the future.

Benjamin is versatile enough to play center back, right back, or midfield if necessary, which might be useful to Cook.

He progressed through Fulham’s academy system and played regularly for the Whites at several youth levels.

The potential has been with the Bluebirds for the last two years after moving to Wales to join Cardiff City in 2022.

In order to gain experience, Benjamin was loaned to Dunfermline Athletic in Scotland and made two appearances for the Bluebirds’ first squad.

After the previous season, he wasn’t the only player to quit Cardiff City. Along with other young people like James Crole, Ryan Kavanagh, Kyle Kenniford, Jacob Hughes, Finlay Johnson, Jai Semenyo, and Chanka Zimba, Romaine Sawyers, Sheyi Ojo, Rohan Luthra, and Oliver Denham left to make room and money for

While this was going on, loan players like Kamran Grant, Josh Wilson-Esbrand, Josh Bowler, Nathaniel Phillips, and Famara Diédhiou went back to their parent teams.

What comes next?

To bolster their roster, Chesterfield has already made trades for players like Vontae Daley-Campbell, Paddy Madden, Tim Akinola, Chey Dunkley, and Kane Drummond.

They won the fifth-tier title with great speed, and they will be optimistic about their prospects in the higher level.

Cook, the manager of the Spirerites, has managerial experience having held positions at Portsmouth, Wigan Athletic, and Ipswich Town.
