Five-star OT Jackson Cantwell opens up on recruitment, fall visits
Jackson Cantwell led his team onto the field Friday night against a state ranked opponent. Nixa (MO) faced Joplin (MO) in a battle that would test where both teams were at. The five-star offensive tackle helped pave the way for nearly 400 yards of total offense as Nixa rolled to a 49-0 victory.
At 6-foot-7.5, 300 pounds, Cantwell is ranked as the No.1 offensive tackle in the nation and No. 1 overall prospect in Missouri, according to 247Sports.
LSU’s Caden Durham, Alabama’s Ryan Williams lead college football’s top true freshmen of Week 3
Week 3 of the 2024 college football season is officially in the books. And even with the rise of the NCAA transfer portal, there are plenty of true freshman standouts around the country who are making their mark.
The 2024 recruiting class was heavy on star power. And through the first quarter of the season, it has lived up to every bit of the hype and then some.
That was the case again this week as several former five-star prospects delivered their best performances of the season.
Another week, another touchdown for Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams. The 17-year-old true freshman caught four passes for 78 yards and a score in Saturday’s 42-10 victory at Wisconsin. He got the scoring started for the Crimson Tide near the end of the first quarter, beating his defender on a slot fade and hauling in a perfectly-thrown pass from Jalen Milroe for a 31-yard touchdown.
Williams, whom Nick Saban compared to former Alabama star Amari Cooper, has been a big-play machine for the Tide this season. The former five-star recruit has now scored four touchdowns through his first three games, and each of those touchdowns have come on explosive plays of at least 30 yards. His five total receptions of 30-plus yards are tied for the national lead.
True freshman running back Caden Durham entered Saturday with just four career carries to his name, but he exits the weekend as perhaps LSU’s new feature back following a breakout performance in the Tigers’ 36-33 come-from-behind win at South Carolina. The Duncanville (Texas) product finished the day with 98 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, and his 26-yard touchdown run in the second quarter breathed some life into an otherwise listless LSU team and helped to keep the game from getting out of hand.
Durham — the sixth-ranked running back and No. 124 overall prospect in the class of 2024 — generated seven missed tackles forced and 50 yards after contact on the day, according to PFF, and is the 247Sports True Freshman of the Week.
“He broke a ton of tackles,” said LSU coach Brian Kelly. “That’s the nature of the SEC, to make guys miss and run through tackles. He did a really good job of showing himself today, and setting a standard of what we need at that running back position.”
