Former Derby County midfielder Tom Huddlestone has quit Wigan Athletic for League One rivals Birmingham City.
Huddlestone had been working at the Latics as first-team coach since the summer and will now take up that position at Blues who saw Ashley Cole depart earlier this week.
Wigan posted in a statement: “We can confirm that first team coach Tom Huddlestone has departed Wigan Athletic to join Birmingham City.

“Huddlestone, who joined Latics in the summer after occupying a Player-Coach role at Manchester United, has been working as part of Shaun Maloney’s backroom staff as First Team Coach since the start of pre-season.
“While the Football Club was keen to retain the services of Huddlestone, fellow Sky Bet League One side Birmingham presented the former Midlands born midfielder with an offer he simply could not refuse. We would like to thank Tom for his efforts whilst at Wigan Athletic and wish him well for the future.
